James 4:13-17: What is Your Life?

Sermon Overview:

Main Idea: Our life and our plans are in God’s hands, not ours, and go according to his will, not our own.

  1. Boastful Planning (v. 13)

  2. What is Your Life? (v. 14)

  3. What to Say (And Do) Instead (v. 15-17)

Reflection:

  • What’s wrong with the planning in verse 13? How might this attitude show up in our lives?

  • When it comes to our future plans, some of us might have the tendency to over-plan every detail, and others to under-plan out of fear of making the wrong decision. Which ditch do you most often fall into, and what’s the common problem between these two reactions?

  • How does God’s control of the future give us hope and security? How does it humble us?

  • Have you ever had something you really wanted not work out? What did God teach you through that? How has he turned it for good?
